Dr. Hikmat Matar MD, Ph.D; FACS Consultant, General & Laparoscopic Surgeon has been working in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates since 1994 and he was one of the Pioneers of Laparoscopic Surgery in the private sector in Abu Dhabi. During this period, he has performed more than 18,000 procedures including Bariatric (obesity surgery) gastric balloon, gastric banding, sleeve gastrectomy, gastric bypass, omega loop and endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty.  His specialty includes thyroid, breast, gall bladder, appendix, hernias repair, fistula, intestinal surgery, gastroscopy, colonoscopy and colon surgery.

Dr. Matar graduated from Donetsk Medical University Ukraine (USSR) in 1987, then he did his internship in Lebanon in 1988 and his residency in the same university in Ukraine in 1992.

In 1993 he defended his PhD.in General Surgery (Moscow Russia)–Optimal Surgical Procedure and Intensive care in patients with Obstructive jaundice. Dr. Matar worked as an Assistant Professor; he delivered several lectures of different topics and had several publications and Professional Rational Patents.
