Dr. Matar graduated from Donetsk Medical University Ukraine in 1987,then he did his internship in Lebanon in 1988 and his residency in the same university in Ukraine in 1992.
In 1993 he defended his PhD.in General Surgery –Optimal Surgical Procedure and Intensive care in patients with Obstructive jaundice. Dr. Matar worked as an Assistant Professor; he delivered several lectures of different topics and had several publications and Professional suggestions.
In 1994 Dr. Hikmat Matar started his practice in Abu Dhabi as a Consultant General Surgeon and he was one of the pioneers of Laparoscopic surgery in the private sector in Abu Dhabi.
His special interest is in Bariatric (obesity) surgery - gastric balloon, gastric banding, sleeve gastrectomy, gastric bypass, omega loop and endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty. His specialty includes thyroid, breast, gall bladder, appendix, hernias repair, gastroscopy, colonoscopy and colon surgery.
